Hello everyone!
After doing this for a bit now I am starting to see some clear themes in the bunk arguments that big industry pushes out as narratives that support their empire building.
Bunk Argument #1: Bong rips = medical treatment
To be clear right up front, there may be legitimate medicinal implications for cannabinoids. However, when big industry implies social clubs are most similar to harm reduction clinics, and uses this as an attempt to legitimize their party clubs as medical facilities, the logic falls apart quickly. This is a bunk argument because they are trying to, “save their cheetos and eat em too”. You cannot be both, the next medical innovation and the cool new thing to do on Friday nights. Maybe I missed it, but are there insulin clubs or Chemo raves?
Medical facility: Harm reduction clinic
Non medical facility: Social club
Bunk Argument #2: Legalize weed so it can be the next big alcohol, yay!
In addition to the above, big industry makes a recreational claim to (a standard “save their cheetos and eat em too” move) commercialize marijuana so it can be the next big alcohol. This argument is essentially saying, we want to compete to be the most deadly substance that exists. Who the hell thinks this is an actual good idea?! This is a bunk argument if there ever was one.
Key facts 1
- Worldwide, 3.3 million deaths every year result from harmful use of alcohol,2 this represent 5.9 % of all deaths.
- The harmful use of alcohol is a causal factor in more than 200 disease and injury conditions.
- Overall 5.1 % of the global burden of disease and injury is attributable to alcohol, as measured in disability- adjusted life years (DALYs).3
- Alcohol consumption causes death and disability relatively early in life. In the age group 20 – 39 years approximately 25 % of the total deaths are alcohol-attributable.

My simple ask… do we need ANOTHER big alcohol?! And THIS, this of all things is the “for argument” that marijuana should be the next big alcohol? They want their own list like this?! Again, bunk, bunk, bunk, they are clearly planning their campaigns at their social clubs.
Bunk Argument #3: Legalize to decriminalize
Not only is this too good to be true, but there are real victims of this narrative from big industry. And the victims are the leaders of tomorrow, the youth of today. This is simply unacceptable for people to believe these asinine claims. This is a bunk argument because arrests are up, plus minority population arrests are also up.
In closing, it is good that we are indeed fearlessly investigating, exposing, challenging, and holding the marijuana industry accountable, but in the meantime communities are suffering.
